Beans are a few of the cheapest and natural medicines, their abundant and efficient to combat cholesterol. Recent studies show that beans permanently lower cholesterol, one cup of beans a day can lower your saturated cholesterol up to 20%. The results show approximately 3 weeks later.

In a study, with half a cup of canned beans they managed to reduce 12% of the bad cholesterol, (HDL) in a group of middle age men with a common American diet rich in fat.

One cup of legumes a day will also raise the levels of good cholesterol (LDL) up to a 9%, even though it’s not immediately, the results will show in approximately 2 years. The study shows that legumes improve that critical relationship between good and bad in about 17%.

For better results the intake of legumes must be distributed during the day, for example: half a cup during lunch and another half a cup during dinner. Leguminous contain a minimum of six compounds that fight cholesterol; the most important is probably the soluble fiber.

Don’t forget Soy beans. They are also powerful weapons against cholesterol. The secret lies within the Soy protein, soy milk and soy cheese (tofu), but not in soy sauce or soy oil.
